Is your iPhone obsolete? Apple adds 5 new devices to the 'no repair' list

In a recent update to its list of vintage and obsolete products, Apple has classified five devices as obsolete, marking a significant change for users of these products. The devices now added to this list include the original iPhone SE, the second-generation iPad Pro, and two models of the Apple Watch Series 4, specifically the Hermès and Nike editions. The original iPhone SE, which was phased out in September 2018, was succeeded by the second-generation iPhone SE launched in 2020. With the cessation of repairs for the original model, users will now need to seek alternatives, as it has not received updates since iOS 15. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch Series 4 made history in 2018 as the first smartwatch to enable users to conduct electrocardiograms directly from their wrists. However, it was discontinued a year later after the introduction of the Series 5. The second-generation iPad Pro, notable for being the first Apple device to feature a ProMotion 120 Hz display, was launched in 2017 and paved the way for similar technology in the iPhone 13 Pro series. Apple's policy states that products are considered obsolete if they have not been sold for more than seven years, resulting in the termination of all hardware services for these items. Interestingly, while both Hermès and Nike models of the Apple Watch Series 4 are now obsolete, the standard version remains unaffected. For those concerned about their older Apple devices, it's worth noting that products are designated as vintage five years after they are no longer sold. This means that current vintage products could be deemed obsolete in less than two years, prompting users to consider their options sooner rather than later.
