In a surprising turn of events, Apple is contemplating a price increase for its MacBook Neo, currently retailing at Rs 69,990. This potential hike is linked not only to the introduction of exciting new color options but also to rising production costs associated with the laptop's components. According to insights from tech columnist Tim Culpan, Apple is facing higher expenses for the parts that constitute the MacBook Neo. This escalation in costs could lead the company to adjust the pricing for consumers. In a bid to maintain the laptop’s appeal despite the potential increase, Apple is exploring new finishes or colors to enhance its aesthetic. Currently, the MacBook Neo is available in four vibrant colors: Citrus, Blush, Indigo, and Silver. However, the company has yet to finalize which new colors will be added to this lineup. The demand for the MacBook Neo has surged, prompting Apple to double its production in response to the unexpected popularity. CEO Tim Cook revealed to investors that the device exceeded initial sales expectations, leading the company to raise its production target from 6 million units to an ambitious 10 million. Cook noted, “We were very bullish on the product before announcing it, but we under-called the level of enthusiasm that would be with it,” adding that they are currently experiencing supply constraints. Adding to the complexity, Apple is grappling with increased production costs as it seeks a fresh supply of A18 Pro chips from TSMC, having depleted its existing inventory due to high demand. Initially, these chips were lower-cost variants with minor defects, but the new batch is expected to be premium quality. Furthermore, the shortage of advanced 3nm chip manufacturing capacity, driven by intense demand from AI companies, is also contributing to the rising costs. Additionally, the price of DRAM memory is climbing due to strong market demand. Given these factors, a price adjustment for the MacBook Neo seems likely as Apple navigates through these challenges.
