On May 7, Apple unveiled plans to significantly enhance its renewable energy efforts in India with an investment of Rs 100 Crore. This funding aims to establish over 150 MW of new clean energy capacity, which is expected to play a crucial role in diminishing pollution levels and promoting green entrepreneurship throughout the nation. In collaboration with the renewable energy developer CleanMax, Apple is set to implement this expansion across various locations in India. This initiative aligns with the company's overarching goal of achieving carbon neutrality across its global operations by 2030. Sarah Chandler, Apple's vice president of Environment and Supply Chain Innovation, emphasized the company's commitment to the environment, stating, "At Apple, our dedication to environmental sustainability drives innovation across the globe. We are excited to invest in India’s clean energy landscape and safeguard its invaluable natural resources." According to the company's announcement, the new renewable energy capacity is projected to provide power for over 150,000 average Indian households annually. Apple is also focused on amplifying renewable energy usage throughout its supply chain in India. Previously, the tech giant has partnered with CleanMax to implement rooftop solar solutions for powering its offices and retail outlets with 100% renewable energy. Moreover, Apple has joined forces with WWF-India to bolster recycling and waste management efforts aimed at recovery. The collaboration has led to the deployment of a model with Saahas Zero Waste in Goa, which facilitates the collection, sorting, and recovery of recyclable materials while ensuring full traceability. This initiative seeks to prevent plastic waste from entering local ecosystems. Apple has announced that WWF-India will extend its waste management programs to cities like Coimbatore, with support from local communities and authorities. Additionally, Apple has partnered with Acumen to provide support for six green startups focused on waste management, circular economy practices, and regenerative agriculture.
