Apple signs $30 billion Broadcom deal in biggest US manufacturing push

In a bold move aimed at enhancing domestic production, Apple has announced a groundbreaking multi-year agreement with Broadcom, valued at over $30 billion. This deal marks a significant milestone as Apple's largest commitment to US manufacturing to date. Following the announcement, Broadcom's shares surged nearly 5%, reflecting investor optimism about the partnership. The agreement is poised to lead to the production of more than 15 billion chips within the United States, alongside a notable $1.5 billion expansion of Broadcom’s facility located in Fort Collins, Colorado. Although Apple did not disclose the timeline for when this expanded capacity will come online, the implications for US manufacturing are substantial. Broadcom has long been a key supplier for Apple, primarily providing connectivity components. However, this agreement signifies a major escalation in their collaboration, focusing on the manufacturing of custom silicon products designed for wireless connectivity across cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth technologies. This partnership is a key component of Apple’s ambitious $600 billion investment plan aimed at bolstering US manufacturing, which was initially unveiled in 2025. It also represents the largest commitment to date under Apple's American Manufacturing Program, which seeks to enhance production capabilities throughout its supply chain. In a recent filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Broadcom highlighted its new long-term agreements with Apple, which will extend until 2031, focusing on the development and supply of custom ASIC silicon products for Apple’s devices. Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, described this agreement as a pivotal step in the company's ongoing efforts to invest in US manufacturing—a goal that has garnered attention from various administrations. Cook emphasized that the collaboration with Broadcom and the support from the US government are crucial in creating a comprehensive silicon supply chain in America. He also noted that the components produced in Fort Collins are expected to enhance performance and connectivity for Apple users, showcasing the potential benefits of this strategic partnership.
