Apple has officially released its much-anticipated iOS 26 update, now available for all eligible iPhones, starting from the iPhone 11. However, the launch has not been without its challenges, with numerous users reporting increased battery drain since the update. In response to these complaints, Apple has provided clarification through a newly published support document. The company reassured users that some temporary battery life and thermal performance issues are expected after a major software update. This is attributed to the system's need to index data and files, download new resources, and update applications in the background. Apple stated, "Immediately after completing an update, particularly a major release, you might notice a temporary impact on battery life and thermal performance. This is normal, as your device takes time to complete the setup process in the background." The tech giant emphasized that while the new features may enhance the user experience, they might also require additional resources, potentially leading to a slight dip in performance or battery longevity for some users. Apple is committed to optimizing these features in forthcoming software updates to ensure optimal battery performance and user satisfaction. Additionally, the excitement surrounding the new features may lead users to spend more time exploring their devices, inadvertently contributing to battery drain. One of the standout changes in iOS 26 is the introduction of a new aesthetic known as "Liquid Design," which incorporates translucent and layered elements that mimic the appearance of glass. This update also brings a host of new AI-driven functionalities, including real-time translation in Messages, FaceTime, and the Phone app, which can now screen calls from unknown numbers by requesting the caller's identity and purpose. Users can filter messages from unknown senders to minimize spam, enhancing the overall communication experience. Another innovative feature is the Adaptive Power mode, designed to intelligently extend battery life using AI technology, though it is turned off by default except for users of the iPhone 17 series. iPhone owners can also make use of Visual Intelligence tools, enabling them to interact with on-screen content, search for products, and even manage calendar events simply by looking at them. It is worth noting that only devices released after the iPhone 15 Pro lineup are capable of utilizing Apple's new AI features, known as Apple Intelligence, which further enhances the capabilities of iPhones post-update.
