Qualcomm is set to host its annual Snapdragon Summit starting September 23, where tech enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the next-generation flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. However, recent leaks suggest that another powerful processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, may also make its debut. Renowned tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, identified by the model number SM8845, is currently under development and is expected to enhance the Snapdragon 8 series lineup. This new chipset will reportedly incorporate Qualcomm's custom Oryon CPU cores and be manufactured using TSMC's cutting-edge 3nm N3P technology, the same process slated for the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 (SM8850). In addition to its advanced processing capabilities, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is rumored to support ARM's Scalable Matrix Extensions (SME), a feature designed to boost AI and machine learning performance. This chipset is anticipated to fit strategically between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, which will continue to be Qualcomm's premium offering. Reports suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 could achieve a performance boost of up to 20% in both single-core and multi-core benchmarks compared to its predecessor. Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is expected to pair Oryon CPU cores with an Adreno 830 GPU, positioning it as one of Qualcomm's most adaptable solutions for flagship smartphones in late 2025 and early 2026. Industry insiders speculate that the Redmi K90 may be one of the first devices to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, with brands like Honor and Realme likely to follow in releasing their next premium models. Although Qualcomm has yet to officially acknowledge the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, the upcoming summit promises to be a pivotal moment for the company, potentially revealing a dual flagship announcement that could reshape the mobile landscape.
