iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro Max to launch next month: Top expected upgrades

Apple is gearing up to unveil its highly awaited iPhone 17 series at an event scheduled for next month. While official invitations have yet to be sent out, the tech giant typically reveals its latest iPhones in early September, and this year is expected to follow that tradition. As the launch date approaches, excitement is mounting around the iPhone 17 lineup, particularly the flagship models, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Reports suggest significant design changes, including a shift from a titanium frame back to an aluminum one. This new construction is likely to incorporate a combination of aluminum and glass on the back, enhancing durability while still enabling wireless charging. In terms of design, speculation indicates that Apple may replace the current squarish camera module with a larger rectangular camera bump housing a triple-camera arrangement. Furthermore, the iPhone 17 Pro lineup may introduce a striking new orange color option, alongside more traditional hues like black, white, grey, and dark blue. Rumors also suggest that Apple will continue offering the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max in their respective sizes of 6.3 inches and 6.8 inches. There are whispers of an anti-reflective display coating akin to what is found on Samsung devices, although this should be taken with caution. Additionally, the Dynamic Island feature may see minor adjustments, potentially becoming smaller, while ProMotion technology could extend to all four models this year. Under the hood, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are expected to be powered by the new A19 Pro chip, crafted using TSMC's advanced 3nm process technology. This update might boost RAM to 12GB for the Pro models, a jump from the 8GB available in last year’s iPhone 16 series. This increase is anticipated to enhance the performance of Apple’s intelligent features and overall multitasking capabilities. To address heat management, Apple might introduce a vapor chamber cooling system in the iPhone 17 Pro lineup, helping to prevent thermal throttling. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is rumored to feature a robust 5,000mAh battery, an upgrade from the previous model's 4,676mAh capacity. Notably, both Pro variants are expected to support reverse wireless charging at 7.5W, alongside 45W wired fast charging and 25W wireless charging compatibility with third-party chargers. Camera enhancements are also on the horizon, with the new models likely equipped with a 24MP front-facing camera, a significant upgrade from the 12MP sensor in the previous generation. Additionally, the telephoto lens may see an upgrade to 48MP, joining the wide and ultra-wide lenses at that resolution. This would enable the iPhone 17 Pro models to record in up to 8K video and potentially introduce dual-video recording, allowing simultaneous capture from both the front and rear cameras, a feature already available on many Android devices.
