iPhone 17 launching next month: Price, display, camera and all we know so far

The launch of Apple's highly anticipated iPhone 17 series is just around the corner, with expectations set for the second week of September. As Apple prepares for its major hardware unveiling of the year, numerous leaks and rumors have surfaced regarding the upcoming devices. Among the four models anticipated, the standard iPhone 17 is generating significant buzz, potentially becoming the most well-rounded base iPhone released in years. A major point of contention with the previous iPhone 16 was its 60Hz display, which many felt fell short compared to the now-standard 120Hz screens found even in more affordable smartphones. Reports suggest that Apple aims to address this issue with the iPhone 17, which may feature a larger 6.3-inch display, an upgrade from the 6.1-inch panel of its predecessor, and could borrow the advanced display technology from the iPhone 16 Pro models. If the rumors hold true, the iPhone 17 will boast an LTPO OLED ProMotion 120Hz display, allowing the refresh rate to dynamically adjust between 1Hz and 120Hz, enhancing efficiency and performance. This model is also expected to offer a 30% increase in brightness and battery longevity compared to the previous generation. Under the hood, the iPhone 17 is likely to be powered by the new A19 chipset, built on TSMC's innovative 3nm technology, promising better performance and energy efficiency than the A18 in the iPhone 16. It is anticipated to maintain 8GB of RAM, sufficient for handling Apple's AI capabilities, while the iPhone 17 Pro models may see a boost to 12GB. Design-wise, the standard iPhone 17 may not undergo significant changes, retaining the familiar pill-shaped dual-camera layout on the back. Color options could include classic shades such as Black, White, Steel Gray, Green, and Purple. Additionally, like its counterparts, the iPhone 17 is expected to feature an upgraded 24MP front-facing camera, a significant leap from the previous 12MP sensor, allowing for better detail in selfies and improved cropping capabilities. On the rear, the camera setup is likely to remain unchanged, with a 48MP primary sensor paired with a 12MP ultra-wide lens. While pricing details are still unclear, some sources indicate that the iPhone 17 might keep its starting price at $799, while others suggest a possible $50 increase due to rising production costs linked to recent tariffs imposed by the U.S. government. As we await the official announcement, excitement continues to build around the iPhone 17 series and its Pro, Pro Max, and Air variants.
