Apple’s affordable iPhone likely to debut next year, display rumours ignite talks

As the year draws to a close, excitement is building around Apple's upcoming iPhone models. Recent leaks have sparked conversations about the iPhone 18, but the spotlight is now shifting towards the much-anticipated iPhone 17e, a more affordable option in Apple’s lineup. Rumors suggest that the iPhone 17e will feature a display design reminiscent of its predecessor, although it may come with a sleeker bezel. A report from The Elec indicates that this model is expected to utilize an LTPS OLED display, similar to the one found in the iPhone 16e, while maintaining a design akin to the iPhone 14. The slimmer bezel could provide a fresh aesthetic for the device. In terms of production, BOE is set to be the primary supplier of display panels for the iPhone 17e, working alongside Samsung Display and LG Display. Apple is reportedly preparing to ship over 8 million OLED units in anticipation of the iPhone 17e’s launch in 2026. While there were initial speculations that the iPhone 17e might incorporate a Dynamic Island feature, it seems more likely to adhere to the design cues of older models. Despite the enhancements seen in the iPhone 17, including a ProMotion display and an ultrawide camera, the iPhone 17e is expected to keep a classic 6.1-inch 60Hz display and a boxy design to remain budget-friendly. Under the hood, the iPhone 17e is anticipated to be powered by the A19 chip, promising improved performance. Camera capabilities may include a single 48MP rear camera, similar to the iPhone 16e and iPhone Air, along with a 12MP front-facing camera, ensuring that this model still packs a punch in photography despite its lower price point.
