Google isn't releasing its next big AI model yet, drawing groans at its I/O conference

At the highly anticipated Google I/O developer conference, excitement turned to disappointment as CEO Sundar Pichai announced the postponement of the much-anticipated Gemini 3.5 Pro AI model. Addressing the audience, he acknowledged their eagerness, saying, "I know you can't wait to get your hands on it. Give us until next month to get it to you." Many in attendance had hoped to see the unveiling of 3.5 Pro, which is touted as the tech giant's most advanced AI model yet. Although Pichai did not provide specific reasons for the delay, he assured the audience that the model is demonstrating significant improvements over its predecessors. The tech community is keenly awaiting its release, particularly following the success of the previous model, Gemini 3, which exceeded industry expectations. Despite the setback with Gemini 3.5 Pro, Google showcased other innovations during the conference. Among these was Spark, an AI agent designed to operate independently without the need for a laptop to remain open. Additionally, the company introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash, a variant optimized for AI agents, further illustrating its commitment to advancing artificial intelligence technology. As Google's stock continues to rise, driven by strong performances from its AI models and hardware, all eyes will be on the impending launch next month.
