Apple testing iOS 26.2? Here's what to expect

Apple is gearing up to launch iOS 26.2, which is currently in its testing phase and expected to arrive around mid-December. According to insights from MacRumors, this update promises significant enhancements, particularly for users in Japan, while also rolling out features beneficial to iPhone users globally. One of the most substantial improvements could be seen in the Reminders app, which may receive a much-needed upgrade. A new alarm feature is set to make alerts function more like conventional clock alarms. By activating the new Urgent setting while creating reminders, users will be able to snooze or dismiss alerts, with snoozed reminders displaying a countdown on the Lock Screen. Apple plans to visually distinguish these alerts with a blue color scheme and will introduce these features through an onboarding splash screen and an in-app banner post-update. The update may also enhance Lock Screen customization options, introducing a Liquid Glass slider for clock appearance. This feature allows users to adjust the clock's transparency, ranging from fully clear to a frosted look. For those who prefer a solid clock display, that option remains unchanged, with continued support for color adjustments. Additionally, a new Tinted mode under the Liquid Glass setting will provide reduced transparency, although it comes with certain accessibility limitations that will disable options like Reduce Transparency or Increase Contrast when activated. Apple is reportedly improving AirDrop functionality, enabling users to share files securely without needing to exchange contact information. This can be achieved through a one-time AirDrop code, allowing temporary sharing with non-contacts for a duration of up to 30 days. Users will have the ability to manage these one-time access permissions via the Settings menu. Furthermore, Apple Music users can look forward to the ability to access song lyrics offline, which will be particularly useful in areas with poor connectivity, such as during flights. The Podcasts app is also set to receive several enhancements, including auto-generated chapters, quick access to mentioned references within the transcript, and a new section on episode pages listing links referenced during broadcasts. iOS 26.2 is anticipated to be officially released between December 9 and December 16, with the exact launch date expected to be confirmed as the rollout date approaches.
