Anthropic’s Cat Wu says that, in the future, AI will anticipate your needs before you know what they are

In a year marked by significant advancements in artificial intelligence, Anthropic is positioning itself to potentially surpass its closest rival in the tech industry. The company is gearing up for a funding round that could raise tens of billions, potentially boosting its valuation to around $950 billion, surpassing OpenAI's earlier valuation of $854 billion. Increasingly, business clients are showing a preference for Anthropic's Claude over ChatGPT, with recent reports indicating that Claude has quadrupled its market share among enterprise users since May 2025. Cat Wu, the head of product for Claude Code and Cowork, has played a crucial role in this growth since joining Anthropic in August 2024. Under her guidance, Claude has evolved from a basic informational chatbot into a sophisticated coding tool and more. Wu collaborates closely with Boris Cherny, a key technical figure and creator of Claude Code, earning them the nickname of Anthropic’s “Batman and Robin.” During a recent interview at the second annual Code with Claude conference in San Francisco, Wu shared insights into her product strategy and her aspirations for Claude's future. When discussing product strategy, Wu emphasized the importance of innovation over competition. "Our focus is on staying at the forefront of AI development, rather than reacting to what others are doing," she explained. "If you constantly think about competitors, you risk falling behind in your execution." Anthropic has already launched six models last year and is on track to match that number this year, with hopes for continued rapid development. One of the initiatives, Glasswing, was introduced in April, allowing a select group of partner organizations, including tech giants like Amazon and Microsoft, access to its new cybersecurity model, Mythos. Unlike previous releases, Mythos will not be available to the general public due to concerns about its potential misuse in identifying software vulnerabilities. Wu also reflected on the evolving landscape of work, suggesting that future roles may involve managing fleets of AI agents. She noted, "It's crucial for managers to understand their domain well to effectively oversee agents. This new skill set may resemble traditional management but requires a deeper understanding of how to troubleshoot and guide AI behavior." While some may worry that AI could reduce the need for human workers, Wu believes the goal is to enhance productivity. By automating tedious tasks—like managing emails—AI can free individuals to focus on more creative and fulfilling projects. Looking ahead, Wu expressed excitement about the shift towards proactive AI capabilities, where Claude could autonomously set up automations based on users’ work patterns, heralding a new era in AI assistance.
