This revelation comes from a technical disclosure regarding the Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models, released on Tuesday, and has raised eyebrows across the tech community. According to the company, these limitations are a precautionary measure aimed at preventing the development of advanced AI systems that could outpace safety measures. Unlike conventional safeguards used in fields like cybersecurity or biology, the adjustments made by Anthropic are discreet, meaning users may not even realize the models are operating under restricted conditions. For instance, the AI research firm SemiAnalysis expressed concern on X, stating that the model will intentionally underperform when it perceives that machine learning research is taking place.
