Claude Code’s product lead talks usage limits, transparency, and the “lean harness”

The event featured significant announcements, including new functionalities for Managed Agents and a partnership with SpaceX to boost computational resources. A notable aspect of this partnership is the increase in usage limits for Claude Code users on Pro and Max plans, a response to heightened user frustrations stemming from a computational crunch that has intensified in recent weeks. As Anthropic's tools, particularly Claude Code, have surged in popularity, the demands placed on their systems have skyrocketed. CEO Dario Amodei noted at the conference that while the company had initially prepared for a year-on-year growth of 10 times, they instead experienced an astonishing 80-fold increase. This rapid growth has led to challenges in meeting user demands, as the shift from simple chat interactions to complex, multi-agent workflows has significantly raised the stakes. To alleviate the pressure, Anthropic has been exploring various strategies, such as implementing stricter usage limits during peak times and considering the removal of Claude Code from more affordable subscription tiers. Over the past year, the company has also rolled out numerous features and tools, transforming Claude Code's accessibility from command-line interfaces to integrated development environments and desktop applications. The pace of innovation at Anthropic has been both intense and, at times, chaotic, reflecting the fast-evolving landscape of AI-driven software development.
