Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5, Mythos 5 global access cleared by US govt; Global rollout starts July 1

The U.S. Department of Commerce has officially removed restrictions on the international launch of Anthropic's AI models, Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5. Starting today, July 1, these advanced AI systems will be accessible worldwide following a two-week period of export controls imposed by the U.S. government. In a post on X, Anthropic expressed gratitude to its users for their understanding during this period and highlighted the significance of this rollout in making their innovative AI capabilities available globally. The message emphasized the collaborative efforts that made the redeployment of these models possible. Initially, Anthropic had to disable global access to Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5 due to national security concerns raised by the U.S. government. This restriction meant that individuals outside the United States could not access these powerful AI tools. However, with the recent lifting of these controls, Anthropic is eager to resume the global distribution of its models. The announcement follows a recent decision by U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who authorized a limited release of Mythos 5 to certain companies and federal agencies. In a letter, Lutnick noted that Anthropic had established “appropriate safeguards” for granting access to select trusted partners. Lutnick also shared an update on X, stating, “During the last two weeks, we have collaborated closely with Anthropic to review and approve Fable 5, ensuring it aligns with U.S. Government standards and bolstering America’s leadership in the AI sector.” In addition to Anthropic’s advancements, the U.S. government has similarly restricted OpenAI’s rollout of its GPT 5.6 model as part of a broader initiative to enhance oversight of advanced AI technologies. According to a recent blog post by Anthropic, Claude Fable 5 will be made available globally starting today on several platforms, including Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork. For users on Pro, Max, Team, and select Enterprise plans, Fable 5 will be included for up to 50% of weekly usage limits until July 7, after which it will transition to a usage credit system. Furthermore, access to these models will soon be extended to AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry.
