Anthropic releases Opus 4.6 with new ‘agent teams’

On Thursday, Anthropic introduced Opus 4.6, the latest iteration of its advanced AI model, which plays a crucial role in the Claude Code ecosystem. This update follows the release of Opus 4.5 just last November and aims to expand the model's functionalities and user base significantly. A standout feature of Opus 4.6 is the introduction of 'agent teams.' These teams consist of multiple agents that can collaboratively tackle larger tasks by dividing them into manageable segments. Scott White, Head of Product at Anthropic, likened this innovation to having a skilled team of humans working in concert, noting that segmenting responsibilities allows the agents to coordinate their efforts in parallel, thereby increasing efficiency and speed. Currently, the agent teams are available in a research preview for API users and subscribers. Alongside this feature, Opus 4.6 boasts an extended context window, enabling the model to retain a greater volume of information per session. With a capacity of 1 million tokens, this enhancement is comparable to the capabilities offered by the Sonnet models (versions 4 and 4.5). The extended context is particularly beneficial for managing larger codebases and processing extensive documents. Additionally, Opus 4.6 integrates Claude directly into PowerPoint as a convenient side panel, marking an improvement over previous interactions. Users can now create presentations directly within PowerPoint with Claude's assistance, eliminating the need to transfer files between applications. White explained that Opus has transformed from a specialized tool focused on software development to a versatile resource for a broader range of professionals. The model is now being utilized by not just software developers, but also by product managers, financial analysts, and various other industry professionals, proving its adaptability and utility in diverse fields.
