Anthropic introduces India pricing for Claude AI plans; Pricing starts at…

Anthropic has officially launched localized pricing for its Claude AI platform in India, enabling users on the Pro plan to make payments in Indian rupees (INR) rather than US dollars. This strategic move is significant as India ranks as the second-largest market for Claude, following the United States, and is essential for enhancing the company's international foothold. Previously, Indian customers faced the inconvenience of being charged in US dollars, which often resulted in inflated costs due to currency conversion rates, an 18% GST, and various fees levied by banks or credit card companies. Now, with the new pricing structure, users can expect to see prices adjusted to reflect the local currency on the official website. The Claude Pro plan is now priced at Rs 2,000 monthly, while the Claude Max plan starts at Rs 11,999 per month, and the Claude Team plan is available for Rs 2,399 per user, per month. These rates include GST and applicable local taxes. The Pro plan offers significantly higher usage limits—up to five times more than the free version—and grants access to advanced AI models such as Sonnet 5, Opus, and the new Fable 5 model. Users also benefit from features like Research mode, unlimited Projects, memory capabilities, web searches, and Claude Code. For those looking for more extensive offerings, the Claude Max 5x and Max 20x plans provide enhanced usage limits and additional features, previously priced at $100 and $200 per month, respectively. In an ambitious effort to expand its footprint in India, Anthropic has opened an office in Bengaluru as of February and formed partnerships with leading Indian IT firms like Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to facilitate the adoption of its AI technology. Furthermore, the company has appointed Irina Ghose, a former Managing Director at Microsoft India, to spearhead its operations in the region. With the introduction of localized pricing, Anthropic is taking significant steps to bolster its consumer and enterprise presence across India.
