Anthropic’s Claude Managed Agents can now “dream,” sort of

In a notable announcement at the Code with Claude developers' conference in San Francisco, Anthropic has rolled out a pioneering feature known as 'dreaming' for its Claude Managed Agents. This innovative process allows these agents to review recent interactions and selectively retain crucial information in their memory, thereby enhancing future tasks and interactions. Currently in research preview, this dreaming capability is exclusive to Managed Agents on the Claude Platform. These agents offer a sophisticated alternative to directly utilizing the Messages API, serving as a configurable solution designed to operate within managed infrastructure. This setup is particularly beneficial for scenarios requiring multiple agents to collaborate on a project or task over an extended period. Anthropic describes the dreaming process as a systematic review, where sessions and memory stores are analyzed, and significant memories are curated. This functionality addresses a critical limitation faced by large language models (LLMs), where essential information can be overlooked during lengthy engagements. To mitigate this, many models employ a strategy known as compaction, which periodically evaluates extensive conversations to eliminate extraneous details while preserving vital context for ongoing discussions, projects, or tasks.
