What is Claude for Healthcare? Anthropic launches new AI tool to take on ChatGPT

Anthropic has introduced Claude for Healthcare, an innovative service designed to empower healthcare providers and patients alike with AI capabilities. This new tool allows users to leverage Claude for various medical applications, enhancing the interaction between technology and healthcare. The launch comes at a time when the integration of AI in healthcare is rapidly expanding. Notably, Anthropic has enhanced Claude's functionalities in life sciences, enabling the chatbot to link with numerous scientific platforms. This includes support for managing clinical trials and navigating regulatory processes, marking a significant step forward in AI's role in the healthcare sector. To improve accessibility to healthcare information, Anthropic is implementing multiple connectors within Claude. These connectors will facilitate the retrieval of data from established systems and databases, including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Coverage Database, the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10), and the National Provider Identifier Registry. Claude for Healthcare aims to assist both startups creating innovative healthcare solutions and larger enterprises seeking to incorporate AI into their services. For individual users, the new features are designed to enhance understanding of personal health information, making it easier to engage in meaningful discussions with healthcare professionals. With the capability to access users' lab results and medical records, Claude can summarize medical histories, clarify test results in simple terms, identify trends in health metrics, and generate questions for medical appointments. The overarching goal is to foster more productive conversations between patients and their doctors, while ensuring users remain informed about their health. Anthropic emphasizes that user privacy is paramount. Individuals have full control over the information they choose to share with Claude and must actively opt-in to enable access. They can also modify or revoke permissions at any time. Importantly, the company does not use any health data to train its models. Currently, the service is exclusively available to users in the United States and is limited to subscribers of the Claude Pro and Max plans. Beta versions of the New HealthEx and Function connectors are available now, with Apple Health and Android Health connectors set to roll out shortly for users of Claude's iOS and Android apps. As always, Claude will provide contextual disclaimers, acknowledge its limitations, and encourage users to seek personalized advice from healthcare professionals.
