In a remarkable leap, Anthropic has emerged as the leading artificial intelligence firm in Silicon Valley, recently securing a staggering $65 billion in Series H financing that has propelled its valuation to an impressive $965 billion. This milestone positions Anthropic above its competitor, OpenAI, marking a significant shift in the AI landscape. The financing round, which was revealed on Thursday, saw participation from notable investors including Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, and Sequoia Capital. This latest influx of capital nearly triples Anthropic's previous valuation of $380 billion from February. For context, OpenAI was valued at $852 billion in late March following its record-setting $122 billion funding round. Anthropic's financial growth has been fueled by the success of its AI coding assistant, Claude Code. The company reported a remarkable revenue run rate of $47 billion, a significant increase from $30 billion earlier in the year and a leap from $10 billion in the previous year. Alongside this financial success, Anthropic also introduced its latest model, Claude Opus 4.8, on Thursday, further showcasing its innovative capabilities. In addition to the new model, Anthropic has caught the attention of Wall Street with its Claude Mythos Preview, a specialized model boasting advanced cybersecurity features available exclusively to a select number of companies. Krishna Rao, Anthropic's Chief Financial Officer, emphasized the growing importance of Claude to their expanding global customer base, stating, "Claude is increasingly indispensable to our growing global community of customers, and we work tirelessly to make tools like Claude Code and Cowork more helpful, more powerful, and more adaptable to their needs." He further noted that this funding will enable Anthropic to meet the unprecedented demand for its services, remain at the forefront of research, and expand the availability of Claude to more workplaces across the globe.
