Anthropic is on course to achieve a remarkable $10.9 billion in revenue for the second quarter, as confirmed by CNBC on Wednesday. This figure would surpass the company's total sales from the previous year, marking a significant milestone. If successful, this quarter would also be Anthropic's first profitable period, according to an unnamed source with insider knowledge. In the first quarter, Anthropic reported revenues of $4.8 billion, indicating a more than doubling of sales within just a few months. The company's revenue for 2026 had previously reached $10 billion. The Wall Street Journal first disclosed these impressive revenue figures. Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI executives and researchers concerned about the company's trajectory, Anthropic is widely recognized for its Claude AI models, including the popular Claude Code coding assistant. The company has seen explosive growth this year and is currently negotiating with investors for funding, reportedly at a valuation of $900 billion. Recently, Anthropic topped CNBC's 2026 Disruptor 50 list. In February, the Claude app surged to the forefront of Apple's app store following a public dispute with the Pentagon, during which the company was blacklisted by the Defense Department for denying unrestricted access to its models. Despite this setback, Anthropic seems to be mending its relationship with the government, particularly with the introduction of the Claude Mythos Preview, which features advanced cybersecurity capabilities. Former President Donald Trump commented in April that a deal between the Pentagon and Anthropic could be feasible. The company is also experiencing success in the enterprise sector, leading to a series of compute agreements to meet rising demand. Last month, Anthropic noted that both enterprise and developer interest in Claude, along with a significant increase in consumer usage, had put considerable pressure on its infrastructure. Recently, Anthropic struck a deal with SpaceX to utilize all compute resources at the Colossus 1 data center in Memphis, Tennessee, committing to pay $1.25 billion monthly until May 2029, as detailed in SpaceX's recent IPO prospectus. Despite its rapid progress, Anthropic faces intense competition, particularly from OpenAI, which is valued at over $850 billion by private investors. OpenAI is reportedly preparing to confidentially submit a draft of its IPO prospectus shortly and may enter public markets this year. Meanwhile, Anthropic is also eyeing its own IPO in 2026.
