Venture capitalists are keenly pursuing the promising startup Anthropic, but the company appears to be in no rush to accept additional funding. According to sources reported by Bloomberg, VCs have proposed a new funding round that could value Anthropic at a staggering $800 billion or more, potentially rivaling or even exceeding OpenAI's valuation. Earlier this year, OpenAI completed a monumental funding round, securing $110 billion and achieving a post-money valuation of $852 billion. In a remarkable turn of events, Anthropic had previously announced its own $30 billion round, which would have been record-breaking in a different context, valuing the company at approximately $380 billion. Despite these enticing offers, Anthropic has opted to pause and assess its financial strategy. The company is currently managing substantial capital expenditures, including a commitment of $50 billion for its own data centers and $30 billion allocated for utilizing Microsoft’s cloud services, alongside billions spent annually on AWS. As demand for Anthropic shares intensifies in secondary markets, investors are showing increased interest, with revenue projections soaring to an estimated $30 billion by the end of March—up from $9 billion just two years prior. Should Anthropic's CEO Dario Amodei express interest in new funding, the firm could easily attract investments that surpass its competitors' valuations. Anthropic has chosen not to comment on these developments, leaving the door open for future negotiations and decisions.
