Following a recent meeting between Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the company has been given a stark ultimatum: either align with the military's requirements or face potential blacklisting. The meeting, described as respectful, concluded with Hegseth issuing a warning. Anthropic has until 5:01 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday to comply with the Defense Department's demands, or the government will explore alternative means to ensure cooperation. A high-ranking official from the Pentagon indicated that the Defense Production Act could be invoked, which would grant the government extensive authority over private enterprises in the name of national security. During a visit to SpaceX earlier this year, Secretary Hegseth characterized AI development as a critical component of a "wartime arms race," advocating for the rapid implementation of advanced models within the military.
