Interest from investors in Anthropic, the creator of the Claude AI assistant, has surged dramatically. The company is reportedly considering a new funding round that could raise approximately $50 billion, with valuations anticipated to be between $850 billion and $900 billion, according to multiple insiders. Earlier reports from Bloomberg and Business Insider revealed that Anthropic was approached with several preemptive offers at an $800 billion valuation. However, the company had not yet committed to a fundraising effort at that time. Sources indicate that Anthropic is now feeling the pressure to secure additional funds, which may be crucial as it approaches a potential IPO. A critical board meeting scheduled for May is expected to provide clarity on the funding round and its valuation. The anticipated total for the round is projected to be between $40 billion and $50 billion, although demand from investors seems to be exceeding expectations, fueled by Anthropic's impressive growth trajectory. One institutional investor, eager to contribute as much as $5 billion, has reportedly struggled to arrange a meeting with Anthropic's CFO, Krishna Rao. Recently, the company disclosed that its annual revenue run rate has soared past $30 billion, a significant leap from approximately $9 billion at the end of 2025. The current run rate is estimated to be nearing $40 billion. Much of this revenue growth is attributed to Anthropic's AI coding capabilities, particularly through its Claude Code and Cowork platforms. Many investors believe that the company is just beginning to tap into its vast potential, especially as it explores new opportunities in sectors like finance, life sciences, and healthcare. In February, Anthropic secured its last funding round at a valuation of $380 billion. Should the company move forward with the new fundraising at the valuations discussed, it would not only more than double its worth but could also rival its main competitor. Notably, OpenAI recently completed a record $122 billion funding round, achieving an $852 billion post-money valuation.
