In a strategic move to bolster its presence in the healthcare sector, Anthropic has acquired the biotech startup Coefficient Bio for $400 million in stock, as reported by sources including The Information and Eric Newcomer. Although TechCrunch confirmed the closure of the deal, details regarding the financial specifics were not disclosed by insiders. This acquisition aligns with Anthropic's ongoing efforts to innovate in life sciences, particularly following the recent launch of its tool, Claude for Life Sciences. This initiative is designed to assist scientific researchers in making significant discoveries more efficiently. Founded just eight months ago by Samuel Stanton and Nathan C. Frey, Coefficient Bio emerged from their backgrounds in computational drug discovery at Genentech’s Prescient Design. The startup has been leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance the processes of drug discovery and biological research. With a compact team of around 10 experts, Coefficient Bio is set to integrate into Anthropic’s expanding health and life science division.
