In a significant development at the Code with Claude developer conference held in San Francisco, Anthropic has entered into a strategic partnership with SpaceX. This collaboration is set to leverage the full computing resources from SpaceX's data center located in Memphis, Tennessee. During the conference, CEO Dario Amodei announced that this deal aims to enhance the usage limits for subscribers of Anthropic's Pro and Max plans. Following this announcement, the company has immediately increased the usage thresholds, doubling the previous five-hour limits for these subscribers. Furthermore, the company has eliminated the peak-hour limit reductions and raised API limits for its Opus model, showcasing a commitment to improving user experience. The collaboration reportedly provides Anthropic with access to an impressive 300 megawatts of additional computing power. SpaceX, on its part, highlighted the capabilities of its Colossus 1 supercomputer, which plays a central role in this agreement. This supercomputer boasts more than 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs, including advanced models such as the H100, H200, and the next-generation GB200 accelerators. Additionally, Anthropic has expressed a keen interest in collaborating with SpaceX to develop substantial orbital computing capacities, aiming for multiple gigawatts. This initiative responds to the growing demand for computing power necessary for training and operating advanced AI systems, which is currently outpacing the capabilities of terrestrial infrastructures in terms of power, land, and cooling. Interestingly, this partnership comes on the heels of recent criticisms from Elon Musk regarding Anthropic. Earlier this year, Musk publicly criticized the company, questioning its values and sharing misleading information about its practices. This new alliance marks a dramatic shift in the relationship between the two companies.
