Anthropic signs multi-gigawatt AI compute deal with Google, Broadcom

On April 7, Anthropic revealed its plan to enhance its collaboration with Google and Broadcom by securing a substantial multi-gigawatt capacity of next-generation TPU technology, set to become operational in 2027. This advanced computing infrastructure is designed to elevate the capabilities of its Claude AI model, addressing the surging global demand from customers. The company has reported a remarkable uptick in customer interest and revenue, forecasting its annual revenue to skyrocket from $9 billion by the end of 2025 to an impressive $30 billion by 2026. This surge has propelled Anthropic's post-money valuation to approximately $380 billion. In February, during its Series G funding round, Anthropic boasted around 500 business clients, each contributing over $1 million annually. Remarkably, this figure has rapidly doubled to more than 1,000 clients in just under two months. Driving this revenue growth is Anthropic’s Claude Code, a specialized coding and agent tool that has captured significant attention in the market. Anthropic's CFO, Krishna Rao, articulated the company's commitment in a blog post, stating, “We are building the capacity necessary to serve the exponential growth we have seen in our customer base while also enabling Claude to define the frontier of AI development.” He emphasized that this represents their most substantial computing commitment to date, aimed at keeping pace with their unprecedented growth. According to a filing by Broadcom, this partnership will grant Anthropic access to 3.5 gigawatts of computing capacity through Google's AI processors. This arrangement allows Anthropic to leverage custom silicon (TPUs), thereby decreasing its reliance on traditional GPUs and gaining greater control over its computing framework. Broadcom also noted that the expansion of this compute capacity would be contingent upon Anthropic's ongoing commercial success and mentioned that discussions with various operational and financial partners are underway. Additionally, Broadcom has formed a partnership with OpenAI to develop custom silicon tailored for AI applications.
