Elon Musk's xAI loses another cofounder

In a significant shift for Elon Musk's AI venture, xAI, co-founder Tony Wu has announced his resignation from the company. In a heartfelt message shared on X, Wu expressed his desire to embark on a new journey, stating, "It's time for my next chapter. It's an era with full possibilities: a small team armed with AIs can move mountains and redefine what's possible." Wu's exit marks the fourth departure of a co-founder from xAI in just over a year. Earlier this year, Christian Szegedy left the organization in February, followed by Igor Babuschkin in August. Most recently, Greg Yang stepped back from the company due to health concerns just last month. Before joining xAI, Wu had notable tenure at Google and completed an internship at OpenAI. Founded in 2023, xAI aims to provide alternatives to what Musk has criticized as "woke" chatbots, specifically targeting the likes of OpenAI's ChatGPT with its Grok chatbot. The company has recently merged with Musk's social media platform, X, and last week, his aerospace firm, SpaceX, acquired xAI. As xAI prepares for a potential initial public offering this year, which could value SpaceX at a staggering $1.5 trillion, the company faces scrutiny. Grok has been criticized for generating inappropriate content, leading to restrictions on its image-generation capabilities. Additionally, recent investigations by French authorities have resulted in a raid on xAI's Paris office amid concerns over the chatbot's use in creating explicit deepfakes. As of now, neither Wu nor xAI has issued a response to requests for further comments on these developments.
