Anduril snaps up space surveillance firm ExoAnalytic Solutions

In a strategic move to bolster its presence in space defense, Anduril Industries has announced its acquisition of ExoAnalytic Solutions, a firm specializing in space surveillance. This acquisition comes at a critical time when understanding activities in Earth's orbit is vital for national security. ExoAnalytic operates a global network of 400 telescopes that meticulously track spacecraft in high orbits. Their advanced software transforms these observations into vital situational awareness tools utilized by U.S. national security agencies. Gokul Subramanian, Anduril's VP of engineering, emphasized the importance of this acquisition, stating, "We believe the Department of Defense deserves the best catalog of everything going on in space." While the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, it's noteworthy that Anduril is currently seeking to raise $4 billion from investors, including Thrive Capital and Andreessen Horowitz. ExoAnalytic will be integrated directly into Anduril’s operations, rather than functioning as a separate entity. However, it will continue to provide services to its existing and future clients. The addition of ExoAnalytic's 130 employees will significantly enhance Anduril's workforce dedicated to space defense, which currently includes 120 employees. This expansion is expected to position Anduril favorably for government contracts related to the Golden Dome missile defense system, a project Congress has allocated billions for. Anduril is also planning to launch three new spacecraft this year as part of its research and development initiatives, leveraging the capabilities gained from this acquisition. Subramanian noted that ExoAnalytic's expertise in processing space data would play a crucial role in developing an infrared tracking satellite in collaboration with Apex Space, along with two additional missions planned with Impulse Space and Argo Space. Furthermore, the acquisition brings an additional advantage: ExoAnalytic's machine vision algorithms, designed for satellite detection, can also assist in tracking and engaging incoming threats. Anduril is already working on a space-based missile interceptor under a Pentagon contract awarded in late 2025. Founded in 2008, ExoAnalytic has established itself as a key player in adapting missile defense technology for space surveillance, driven by federal grants totaling $26 million since 2010. The U.S. Space Force has expressed increasing concern over the activities of Chinese and Russian spacecraft that closely approach American and European satellites, raising the stakes for enhanced space security measures. Subramanian noted, "We’ve been on a mission for the last several years to figure out how to be a part of that solution."
