Andrej Karpathy, co-founder of OpenAI, recently shared his excitement about receiving a unique gift from Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. The gift, which Karpathy referred to as a "real beauty," is the first-ever Nvidia DGX Station, a powerful supercomputer tailored for desktop AI development. Karpathy hinted at the station's impressive capabilities by noting that it requires 20 amps of power. In a post on X, he expressed his gratitude, stating, "Thank you Jensen and NVIDIA! She’s a real beauty!" This state-of-the-art machine is set to serve as an advanced platform for his OpenClaw bot, affectionately named "Dobby the House Elf claw," along with various other projects. Following his departure from OpenAI in February 2024, Karpathy launched Eureka Labs, an AI education startup that aims to innovate in the field. During a recent keynote at Nvidia's GTC event, Huang praised the rise of OpenClaw, an open-source AI agent that is gaining traction not only in Silicon Valley but also in China, calling it "definitely the next ChatGPT." Huang emphasized the transformative potential of OpenClaw, stating, "The implication is incredible," and highlighted how it allows for the creation of personalized AI agents. The significance of Karpathy's new station is underscored by a handwritten note from Huang, which celebrates their shared journey in AI development since 2015. In his note, Huang remarked, "The agentic era of AI has arrived," acknowledging the early days of their collaboration at Nvidia conferences. Reflecting on his long-standing relationship with Huang and Nvidia, Karpathy noted how the audience at those early events was primarily composed of gamers and scientific computing professionals, many of whom were initially skeptical about AI's potential. He credited Huang's foresight, stating, "Jensen was 1000% correct, highly prescient and locked in very early."
