‘NaMo for us means Naidu and Modi’: Nara Lokesh makes case for Andhra Pradesh’s tech advantage

In a bold declaration for Andhra Pradesh's rise as a leader in technology, IT Minister Nara Lokesh articulated the state's unique advantages on April 28. Speaking at the foundation ceremony of Google’s groundbreaking $15 billion AI data center in Visakhapatnam, Lokesh emphasized that the region's strength lies in its leadership, rapid execution, and a strategic collaboration he termed the 'NaMo' advantage, referencing both Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Lokesh described the establishment of the AI data center as a pivotal moment not only for Andhra Pradesh but for India's aspirations in artificial intelligence. "NaMo for us means Naidu and Modi together," he remarked, emphasizing the synergy between political vision and administrative action that has propelled this project forward. Highlighting the factors that distinguish Andhra Pradesh in attracting one of the largest foreign direct investments since Independence, Lokesh identified three critical elements. First, he pointed to Chief Minister Naidu's proven leadership in urban development, likening it to his previous success in transforming Hyderabad into an IT hub. "Mr. Naidu is known for building cities. He's doing the magic all over again," he stated. Secondly, Lokesh underscored the state's impressive speed of execution, noting that what was promised to take a year was achieved in just a few months. This remarkable ability to turn proposals into tangible results showcases Andhra Pradesh's commitment to rapid development. The third factor he mentioned was the effective coordination between state and central governments. "That is what we have in our position. It's going together. That's why they live together," he explained, referring to the often-cited 'double-engine' government model that enhances governance efficiency. Beyond mere infrastructure, Lokesh stressed the importance of data sovereignty. He pointed out that the Andhra Pradesh government is collaborating closely with Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to ensure that data generated within these facilities remains under Indian jurisdiction, thereby bolstering the nation’s control over its digital resources. With the Vizag AI hub set to meet extensive computing demands and support a larger ecosystem, Lokesh believes Andhra Pradesh is no longer just a participant in India's technological advancement but is emerging as a leader. The 'NaMo' partnership, he concluded, has opened a unique opportunity for the state to spearhead the tech revolution in India.
