On April 14, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will unveil two groundbreaking quantum computer test beds, marking the state as the first in India to establish a dedicated ecosystem for quantum testing and certification. This significant launch coincides with World Quantum Day and is a key element of the Amaravati Quantum Valley initiative. The facilities will be operational at SRM University and Medha Towers in Gannavaram. The initiative is designed to lay the groundwork for quantum research, hardware validation, and collaboration within the industry. Officials have emphasized that these facilities will enhance the existing infrastructure for quantum computing in India, which has been relatively sparse in this domain. The two facilities consist of a 1Q test bed, developed by Qubitech at Medha Towers, and a 1S superconducting test bed located at SRM University. Both setups are engineered to function at temperatures close to -273 degrees Celsius, facilitating the testing of quantum components and devices under near-absolute zero conditions. Described as “Quantum Reference Facilities,” these centers aim to provide essential testing and certification services for quantum computing hardware. The state government highlighted that this initiative will not only enable the evaluation of quantum hardware but also herald a new era of advanced technology capabilities in Amaravati. The SRM University facility is set to function as an open-access platform, inviting researchers, students, startups, and enterprises to explore and validate quantum technologies. Authorities anticipate that this will accelerate innovation and foster a domestic ecosystem focused on quantum hardware and its applications. In alignment with India's push for self-reliance in deep technology, both test beds have been constructed using indigenous components. Technical support has been provided by esteemed institutions such as the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, the Indian Institute of Science, and the Defence Research and Development Organisation. The government aims to position Amaravati as a global hub for quantum innovation, particularly as nations compete to enhance their capabilities in quantum computing, communications, and cryptography.
