Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President for Emerging Markets at Amazon, recently announced that the company's various operations in India are thriving. He revealed that Amazon aims to support 3.8 million jobs in the country by the year 2030. In a podcast interview with Business Today, Agarwal emphasized the company's commitment to artificial intelligence (AI), labeling it as a significant disruption of our era. "We have multiple facets of our business in India, including Prime Video and MX Player for entertainment, as well as Amazon Devices like Fire TV Stick and Alexa Echo," Agarwal stated. His comments followed Amazon's announcement of a substantial $35 billion investment plan aimed at expanding its presence in India by 2030. Having already invested $40 billion, Amazon positions itself as the largest foreign investor in the region, playing a crucial role in exports and job creation. Agarwal noted, "Looking forward to the next five years, we anticipate an additional $35 billion investment that will enhance our capabilities across various dimensions. Our goal is to enable $80 billion in cumulative exports by 2030. This initiative is expected to create an extra 1 million jobs, contributing to the total of 3.8 million jobs we're aiming for." He also highlighted the importance of AI in digital transformation, revealing plans to empower 4 million government school children with AI literacy and training. Agarwal referenced the commitments made during the 2020 Sambhav conference, where Jeff Bezos proclaimed the 21st century would belong to India. Over the coming years, Amazon aims to facilitate Indian sellers in exporting goods worth $80 billion through its platform.
