Amazon to acquire AI wearable startup Bee, that has the ability to listen to everything you say

Amazon has officially announced its intention to acquire Bee, an innovative startup based in San Francisco. This company has developed a cutting-edge AI wristband that can listen to conversations and provide users with summaries, to-do lists, and more. The announcement was made following a LinkedIn update by Bee’s CEO and co-founder, Maria de Lourdes Zollo, who expressed her excitement about the acquisition. Bee’s wristband, priced at $50, is designed for effortless transcribing of spoken conversations, allowing users to easily record and distill their daily interactions. The device features a mute function, ensuring user privacy is maintained. An Amazon representative stated that the company plans to work alongside Bee to enhance user control over the technology. In her LinkedIn post, Zollo envisioned a future where AI becomes an integral and personal part of life, highlighting technology that evolves with the user. Although Amazon has not revealed the financial specifics of the acquisition, the deal is still in progress. Once finalized, Bee will become part of the division overseen by Amazon Devices chief, Panos Panay. This acquisition is not Amazon's first foray into the wearable technology sector. The company previously launched the Halo fitness bands, although those were discontinued in 2023. Additionally, Amazon continues to market smart glasses under the Echo brand, which incorporate its Alexa voice assistant. The deal places Amazon in a rapidly expanding market for AI-driven consumer devices. Earlier this year, OpenAI made waves with its $6.5 billion acquisition of io, a startup led by former Apple designer Jony Ive. AI wearables are still an emerging area, with various startups exploring their potential with varied results. Founded in 2022, Bee has quickly garnered attention for its sleek device that aims to simplify the use of AI without screens or manual inputs, aligning with the growing trend of ambient computing.
