Amazon has announced an ambitious plan to invest over $35 billion in India within the next five years. This significant commitment, unveiled during the Amazon Smbhav Summit in New Delhi, aims to enhance the country's digital economy, expand the artificial intelligence sector, and create more job opportunities for local residents. This latest investment builds on Amazon's previous commitment of approximately $40 billion in India over the past 15 years, underscoring the company’s ongoing dedication to the Indian market. The event featured the release of an Economic Impact Report by Keystone Strategy, which details Amazon’s rising role in India as the leading foreign investor and a catalyst for e-commerce exports. Amazon’s investment strategy is anchored in three main areas: AI-driven digitization, export growth, and job creation. The company has already made substantial investments in both physical and digital infrastructure, which includes fulfilment centers, transportation networks, data centers, and digital payment systems. According to Keystone's findings, Amazon has digitized over 12 million small businesses and enabled $20 billion in e-commerce exports, while supporting approximately 2.8 million jobs across various sectors. Looking ahead, Amazon anticipates the creation of an additional one million jobs in India by 2030. This growth is expected to be fueled by the expansion of its business operations, the establishment of a broader fulfilment and delivery network, and increased demand in related industries such as packaging and transportation. In a bid to democratize access to artificial intelligence, Amazon plans to provide AI tools to businesses, consumers, and students throughout India. By 2030, the company aims to benefit 15 million small businesses with AI-driven solutions, while also enhancing the shopping experience for millions of users with features like visual discovery and conversational shopping. Furthermore, Amazon is dedicated to empowering four million students from government schools with AI education and career opportunities. This initiative will involve structured curricula, technology career tours, and hands-on experiences, all in collaboration with various nonprofit organizations, aligning with India's National Education Policy 2020.
