Amazon to invest $48 billion in India by 2030; Andy Jassy announced after meeting PM Modi

Amazon's CEO, Andy Jassy, recently engaged in discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, reinforcing the company's dedication to fostering growth in India. Following their meeting, Jassy announced a significant addition of $13 billion to Amazon's investment strategy, aimed at enhancing both artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure in the country. This latest commitment brings Amazon's total planned investment in India to over $21 billion from 2026 to 2030, signaling a robust trust in the Indian market. Jassy took to social media to express his enthusiasm about the meeting, sharing a photo with Prime Minister Modi and mentioning the exciting developments on the horizon for Amazon in India. As part of this expansive strategy, Amazon is set to invest a staggering $48 billion over the next five years, with more than $21 billion specifically earmarked for AI and cloud initiatives. The company's total investment in India from 2010 to 2030 is projected to exceed $88 billion. In addition to bolstering infrastructure, Amazon aims to create approximately 3.8 million jobs and generate $80 billion in cumulative exports. The company also plans to provide AI resources for 15 million small businesses and educational tools for 4 million government school students across the nation. Amazon is focusing on establishing 20 new fulfillment centers and over 100 last-mile delivery stations this year, particularly in tier 3 and tier 4 cities. Furthermore, the company has introduced the 'Sammaan' initiative to enhance welfare for its delivery associates involved in e-commerce and quick commerce operations. Jassy also met with Maharashtra's Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, to discuss further investments in data centers, healthcare, and skill development powered by AI, underscoring Amazon's commitment to aligning its initiatives with India's economic goals.
