Amazon to invest $12.7 billion to empower India’s cloud and AI infrastructure by 2030

In a bold move to enhance India's technological capabilities, Amazon has announced a significant investment of $12.7 billion aimed at transforming the nation's cloud and AI infrastructure by the year 2030. This initiative is set to empower over 15 million small businesses and benefit approximately 4 million students enrolled in government schools across the country. The investment aligns with the Government of India's AI Mission, which strives to improve accessibility, productivity, and digital inclusion on a national scale. Amazon believes that by bolstering India's AI framework, the country can position itself as a frontrunner in the global technology arena. Currently, Amazon provides advanced AI support to both private enterprises and public sector initiatives, including collaborations with DigiYatra, Apollo Tyres, and Axis Bank. The increased funding will enable small businesses to enhance their services and operations, allowing them to thrive in a competitive market. Samir Kumar, Amazon India's Country Manager, emphasized the transformative potential of AI, stating, “AI has the potential to be the great equaliser in India—breaking down barriers of language, literacy, and access that have historically held people back.” Amazon has already rolled out a variety of AI-driven tools designed to assist small businesses and sellers in India. These include features like Seller Assistant, Creative Studio, and Rufus AI Assistant, all aimed at helping businesses analyze consumer behavior, set business objectives, and create effective advertising campaigns to expand their reach. In addition to supporting businesses, Amazon's investment will also focus on improving AI literacy among students in government schools. The comprehensive plan includes the development of an enriched AI curriculum, interactive experiments, career exploration tours, and teacher training programs, all of which are aligned with India's National Education Policy 2020 that emphasizes digital literacy and skill enhancement. With this ambitious initiative, Amazon is not just investing in infrastructure but also in the future of India's youth, ensuring they are well-equipped to navigate an increasingly digital world.
