Amazon now lets you design custom merch using AI

On Monday, Amazon launched an innovative feature that allows users to design their own merchandise using artificial intelligence. This new capability presents a significant challenge to existing online platforms such as Redbubble, Bonfire, and Spring. With the integration of AI prompts via the Alexa feature in its Shopping app, users can transform their ideas into designs for a wide range of products, from clothing to tumblers, all through Amazon's print-on-demand service, Merch on Demand. This service is particularly useful for creating unique items, such as T-shirts for family gatherings, personalized gifts, or even products showcasing pet portraits, as suggested by Amazon. Once users input their design concepts, Amazon takes care of the production and delivery, utilizing Prime shipping for quick fulfillment. This development places AI-generated merchandise directly within Amazon's Shopping app, making it easier for consumers who may not have traditional design skills to bring their visions to life. Historically, print-on-demand services have focused on creators and various organizations, but Amazon's new feature could democratize access to AI-designed products, turning them into a mainstream shopping option. Currently, this feature is only available to customers in the United States and is free to use, with users only responsible for the cost of the products they create. To start designing, customers can tap the Alexa icon in the bottom right corner of the Amazon Shopping app or search for "customize" in the search bar. This leads them to an interactive experience where they can describe their ideas to Alexa, which then generates a design. Users have the option to modify their designs by selecting suggested actions or entering their own changes. They can also easily share their creations with friends or family, allowing others to add the items to their own shopping carts. The merchandise options available for customization include T-shirts, V-necks, long-sleeve shirts, polo shirts, quarter zips, jerseys, hoodies, sweatshirts, tank tops, raglans, tumblers, and water bottles.
