Amazon opens up its global logistics network to all businesses

In a bold move to expand its reach, Amazon has announced the launch of its global logistics network for all businesses. This new initiative, branded as Amazon Supply Chain Services, positions the tech giant in direct competition with established shipping leaders like UPS and FedEx. The service will provide access to Amazon’s extensive freight, distribution, fulfillment, and parcel shipping capabilities, catering to businesses across a diverse range of industries, including healthcare, automotive, manufacturing, and retail. This strategic expansion allows Amazon to transform a service that has long benefited thousands of independent third-party sellers into a comprehensive offering available to any business. Peter Larsen, vice president of Amazon Supply Chain Services, emphasized the significance of this launch, stating that Amazon aims to deliver the infrastructure, expertise, and scale of its supply chain services to companies worldwide, similar to the way Amazon Web Services revolutionized cloud computing. Notably, major brands such as Proctor & Gamble, 3M, Lands’ End, and American Eagle Outfitters have already signed on to utilize the new supply chain service, marking a promising start for Amazon's latest venture.
