Amazon commits over ₹2,000 crore to bolster logistics, safety, and tech infrastructure in India

In a significant move, Amazon has unveiled plans to allocate over ₹2,000 crore (around $233 million) in India by 2025, reinforcing its ambition to establish the most efficient and secure operations network in the country. This substantial investment aims to enhance infrastructure, prioritize employee welfare, and introduce advanced technologies that will improve the company's fulfillment capabilities nationwide. Abhinav Singh, Vice President of Operations for Amazon India and Australia, emphasized the company's longstanding commitment to developing a top-tier logistics infrastructure. "For more than a decade, we have been dedicated to creating a system that delivers with safety, speed, scale, and reliability for our customers across India. These investments are a testament to our ongoing efforts to enhance our fulfillment, sortation, and delivery networks," he stated. The funding will facilitate the launch of new facilities and upgrades to existing ones within Amazon's fulfillment, sortation, and delivery ecosystem. By bolstering processing capabilities, the company aims to improve operational speed and efficiency. The new facilities will be designed with energy-saving technologies and will prioritize inclusivity, focusing on accessibility and safety for individuals with disabilities. Moreover, Amazon's investment will back several key initiatives aimed at supporting employees. These initiatives include Ashray, which provides dedicated rest areas for all delivery associates, Samridhi, a financial wellness program offering personal finance education, Pratidhi, a scholarship program for children of Amazon associates, and Sushruta, a healthcare initiative tailored for truck drivers. By the end of 2025, Amazon plans to offer free health check-ups to over 80,000 delivery associates and partners through medical camps across the nation. In addition to these employee-centric programs, Amazon is developing a suite of tools to enhance safety and streamline operations. These tools will include route complexity analyzers, real-time alerts for unsafe driving speeds, and prompts for required rest breaks. Enhancements to the Driver app will improve transparency around earnings and benefits, while a new Helmet Adherence Application will ensure delivery partners wear helmets properly before starting their routes. The company is also refining delivery workflows by integrating photo and video verification for items and improving navigation tools for unstructured addresses.
