After outages, Amazon to make senior engineers sign off on AI-assisted changes

This deep dive is particularly focused on outages associated with the integration of AI coding tools, as the company has noted a troubling trend of incidents in recent months. According to a briefing note obtained by the Financial Times, these incidents have been marked by a "high blast radius," with AI-assisted changes identified as a contributing factor. Dave Treadwell, a senior vice-president at Amazon, communicated to employees via email that the site's reliability has recently fallen short of expectations. He expressed the urgency of addressing these challenges and announced that the upcoming weekly meeting, dubbed "This Week in Stores Tech" (TWiST), would be dedicated to analyzing the root causes of these outages and discussing immediate strategies to prevent future occurrences. Earlier this month, Amazon's website and shopping app suffered a nearly six-hour downtime due to a problematic "software code deployment," which left many customers unable to finalize purchases or access vital account information.
