In a recent move to enhance efficiency within its Books division, Amazon has confirmed a small number of layoffs affecting teams in its Kindle and Goodreads sectors. The company stated that fewer than 100 positions will be eliminated as part of a restructuring effort aimed at aligning operations with strategic objectives. An Amazon spokesperson remarked, "This decision, though difficult, is part of our commitment to improving operational efficiency and aligning with our business roadmap." These layoffs are part of a larger initiative led by CEO Andy Jassy to simplify corporate structures and accelerate decision-making processes across the company. Over the past year, Amazon has implemented selective job cuts in various areas, including its Devices and Services division and the Wondery podcast segment. Despite adding around 4,000 new roles in the first quarter of 2025, the company is simultaneously working to streamline its workforce and reduce bureaucratic layers. The job cuts were first reported by Business Insider. Following the announcement, Amazon's stock saw a slight increase of 0.3%, although it has still declined by 5.6% since the beginning of the year.
