Over the last six months, Amazon has made significant changes to its podcasting operations, as reported by The New York Times. In August 2025, the tech giant laid off over 100 employees from its podcast studio, Wondery. At that time, Amazon asserted that it was not closing down Wondery entirely, and it appears they have maintained the brand's presence. However, the NYT described the actions taken as a substantial overhaul of the studio. Currently, audio podcasts are primarily run under the Audible brand, while a new division, Creator Services, has been formed to collaborate with well-known personalities such as Dax Shepard, Keke Palmer, and the Kelce brothers, Jason and Travis. A noteworthy initiative includes the development of an extensive ecosystem surrounding the podcast “New Heights,” featuring innovative monetization strategies that extend well beyond typical podcast advertising. Fans can now explore the newly launched Kelce Clubhouse on Amazon, where they can purchase exclusive “New Heights” merchandise, view the documentary “Kelce,” and find products tailored for their football-watching parties. Matt Sandler, the general manager of Creator Services, emphasized Amazon’s goal to seamlessly integrate content with commerce. While many creators online are exploring similar commercial avenues, the NYT noted that Amazon's approach has uniquely involved a drastic restructuring of its podcasting division.
