Amazon Prime Video is poised to become the leading streaming platform in India, thanks to its strategic integration with Amazon MX Player. This unification will merge free and paid video streaming into one comprehensive service, significantly expanding the reach of both platforms. The move combines Prime Video’s premium subscription service with the extensive ad-supported audience of Amazon MX Player. This collaboration aims to create a single destination that encompasses Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD), Advertising Video on Demand (AVOD), Transactional Video on Demand (TVOD), and additional subscription options. This integration follows Amazon's acquisition of certain assets from MX Player in 2024, which were subsequently merged with Amazon miniTV to establish Amazon MX Player. The newly combined service promises to deliver a richer array of exclusive originals, international shows, reality programming, micro dramas, and dubbed content across various devices. Prime members will benefit from an expanded library, with choices to watch content with advertisements or enjoy an ad-free experience. For users seeking complimentary streaming options, a vast catalog of AVOD will still be available, alongside opportunities for seamless upgrades to a Prime membership. Gaurav Gandhi, Vice President for Asia-Pacific and ANZ at Prime Video, stated, "Our mission at Prime Video has always been to showcase authentic stories that resonate with our diverse audience. The integration of Amazon MX Player’s extensive original content and audience reach significantly enhances our collective offering, making Prime Video the premier destination for quality entertainment across India." He further emphasized that Amazon MX Player’s impressive engagement, coupled with Prime Video’s signature storytelling, allows them to serve customers with an unparalleled selection of exclusive content from both India and beyond. Additionally, this integration is expected to bolster Amazon’s advertising business by giving brands access to audiences across both free and paid streaming segments. Girish Prabhu, Vice President & Head of Amazon Ads India, remarked, "The merger of Amazon MX Player with Prime Video is a transformative step for advertisers in India. We’ve developed a unified streaming platform that captures audiences from free ad-supported viewers to Prime members, facilitating effective full-funnel advertising on an unprecedented scale." Prabhu also noted that advertisers will now have access to highly relevant and effective ad formats, driven by extensive shopping, browsing, and streaming data. This transformation aims to convert every ad impression into measurable business results, positioning Prime Video as the most comprehensive video advertising service in the Indian streaming landscape. As part of this transition, the Amazon MX Player app on Android will continue to cater to free streaming users under a new brand identity, while also providing an integrated Prime Video experience. Users accessing Amazon MX Player on iOS, web, and connected TV platforms will be directed to Prime Video, where they can explore content from both services, including free AVOD titles.
