Amazon unveils new Kindle Scribe and Kindle Scribe Colorsoft

During its recent hardware showcase, Amazon introduced the latest additions to its Kindle lineup: the Kindle Scribe and the groundbreaking Kindle Scribe Colorsoft. Both devices come equipped with new artificial intelligence features that promise to enhance user experience. The Kindle Scribe boasts an impressive 11-inch glare-free display, measuring just 5.4mm thick and weighing 400g. Amazon claims this new model is 40% faster for writing and page-turning compared to its predecessors. A novel texture-molded glass has been implemented to improve the pen's glide, mimicking the feel of writing on paper. Additionally, it is powered by a new quad-core chip, increased memory, and the latest Oxide display technology for a smoother operation. Amazon is offering two variants of the Kindle Scribe: one equipped with a front light, set to launch in the U.S. later this year at a price of $499.99, and a version without a front light, expected to be available early next year for $429.99. The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft introduces a unique display technology designed to produce softer colors that are easier on the eyes compared to traditional LCD screens. This model also features a new rendering engine that enhances color quality and ensures a natural writing speed. Users can expect weeks of battery life from this device, which will start at $629.99. Both models include a revamped Home interface that streamlines accessing notes, recently opened books, documents, and notebooks. Amazon envisions these devices as ideal for handwritten notes, incorporating significant integrations to improve the overall experience. Notably, one feature allows users to search their notes across notebooks and receive concise AI-generated summaries. Looking ahead, next year will see the introduction of a feature enabling users to send notes and documents to Alexa+, facilitating more in-depth discussions about them. The Colorsoft variant also caters to artists, offering a new shader tool for creating smooth gradients and subtle tones. Users can write, draw, and annotate with a selection of 10 pen colors and highlight in 5 different colors. Moreover, both devices will feature innovative AI reading tools. The “Story so Far” function helps users catch up on their current reads, while the “Ask this Book” feature allows readers to highlight text and receive spoiler-free answers about character motivations or scene significance. These AI features will be available for books purchased or borrowed through the Kindle iOS app later this year, with Kindle devices receiving them early next year.
