Amazon has begun reaching out to employees affected by its recent decision to eliminate 14,000 corporate positions, as indicated by internal communications reviewed by Business Insider. An email from the company’s HR chief, Beth Galetti, details the support that impacted workers will receive during this transition. According to the message shared on Amazon's internal Slack, laid-off employees will continue to receive full pay and benefits for the next 90 days. While the uniformity of this notification across the company remains uncertain, it clearly outlines the provision of a severance package alongside the paid non-working period. Galetti announced the layoffs, emphasizing that despite the company's robust performance, these cuts align with CEO Andy Jassy’s vision of operating Amazon as if it were a startup. The email conveyed the challenging nature of this decision, stating, "After a thorough review of our organization, our priorities, and what we need to focus on going forward, we've made the hard business decision to eliminate some roles across Amazon." Employees were informed that their roles would be terminated following a designated non-working period. The company is committed to aiding those affected, offering transitional benefits that vary by country, access to skills training, and external job placement assistance. For those impacted, a virtual meeting invitation will be sent shortly, allowing for direct conversations with team leaders or HR representatives about the specifics of their transition. Although attendance is optional, it is encouraged as a means to address individual queries. Amazon has also restricted badge access for affected employees, and security will assist with exiting the premises if necessary. During the 90-day transition, employees can still access internal communication channels such as email and Chime on personal devices. To facilitate this process, employees are advised to ensure their personal email addresses are up to date in the A to Z app, which provides access to essential resources, including FAQs about benefits and equipment returns. Support is readily available from caring team members through the Employee Assistance Portal (EAP) and MyHR, offering confidential assistance around the clock. Beth Galetti concluded the email by reaffirming her commitment to helping employees navigate this difficult period, encouraging them to reach out with any concerns or questions they may have.
