Amazon India is making a significant move into the burgeoning at-home diagnostics sector by partnering with Orange Health Labs, a Bengaluru-based company. This strategic alliance enhances Amazon's healthcare offerings beyond its existing services of medicine delivery and teleconsultation, aiming to create a more comprehensive platform for medical services. The newly introduced service allows for sample collection from patients' homes within an impressive 60-minute timeframe, providing results for routine tests in under six hours. Currently, this service is operational in six major cities: Bengaluru, Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, effectively covering over 450 PIN codes. This initiative follows Amazon's investment through its Smbhav Venture Fund in Orange Health Labs during a $12 million funding round in December 2024. Founded in 2020, Orange Health Labs has garnered support from notable investors including Accel, General Catalyst, Bertelsmann India, and Y Combinator, amassing over $50 million in total funding. The rollout of this diagnostics service is part of Amazon Medical, which also encompasses third-party medicine delivery and online consultations with doctors. As of now, same-day medicine delivery is available across 23 cities. By entering India’s $15 billion diagnostics market, Amazon is positioning itself against established competitors such as Thyrocare (a subsidiary of PharmEasy), Tata 1mg, Dr Lal Path Labs, Apollo Diagnostics, Redcliffe Labs, and other regional players. The diagnostics industry in India is expanding at an annual rate of 15%, fueled by increasing demand for convenience, speed, and the shift toward digitized health services post-pandemic. This expansion underscores Amazon's commitment to integrating deeper into the digital health landscape as competitors strive to deliver rapid and fully integrated healthcare solutions.
