Amazon has announced the termination of its long-standing Prime Invitee Programme, effective October 1, 2025. This feature previously allowed Prime members to extend their complimentary two-day shipping perks to another adult, even if they resided at a different address. This decision signifies a notable shift in how users can share their Prime benefits. Notifications regarding this change have already been dispatched to account holders, with invited guests set to receive updates shortly. In its place, Amazon is rolling out a new sharing model called Amazon Family, which mandates that all participants live within the same household. According to the company’s help page, Amazon Family allows one Prime member to share benefits with up to four children or teenagers, provided all members share the same physical address as the primary account holder. This structure, as confirmed by Amazon to CNBC, is designed to better align with the company's service objectives and represents the sole method for sharing Prime benefits going forward. As of October, users who previously enjoyed shared Prime memberships across different addresses will need to obtain their own plans to continue accessing these benefits. Amazon clarified that while family members can leave and rejoin the Amazon Family group, anyone who exits a household must wait 12 months before rejoining another. To manage Amazon Family settings, members can navigate to the Share Prime Benefits section, invite adults through joint sign-ins for verification, and add children by selecting the 'Add Child' option. Despite this significant change, Amazon reports that Prime membership continues to experience robust growth. A spokesperson stated, "Prime continues to see strong growth and customer engagement both in the US and internationally," highlighting record-breaking sign-ups during Prime Day 2025 and the subsequent weeks.
