Rivian spinoff Also reveals a high-end modular e-bike for $4,500

In a significant reveal at an event in Oakland, Also, a spinoff from Rivian, introduced its new pedal-assist electric bike, the TM-B. This bike represents more than just a mode of transportation; it is designed to be part of a larger ecosystem of micro-mobility solutions. According to RJ Scaringe, the founder and CEO of Rivian, the decision to develop everything in-house was crucial to delivering a top-notch product. The TM-B is not your typical e-bike. It features a sleek design packed with hidden innovations that aim to differentiate it in a competitive market. Scaringe emphasized that the TM-B is just the beginning, as Also plans to expand its product line in the micro-mobility space. During the launch, the company also showcased two quad-vehicles, one of which will be supplied to Amazon. The TM-B will be available in multiple trims, starting with a launch edition priced at $4,500. This version boasts impressive specifications, including a battery with an estimated range of 100 miles, 10 levels of assist, and a dual ride mode that includes a sporty option. The launch edition will be available in unique colors and is set to hit the market in the spring. A performance version, also priced at $4,500, is expected to launch in the first half of 2026, while a more affordable base model, with a 60-mile range, will retail for under $4,000 in the latter half of next year. All versions of the TM-B come equipped with essential safety features, including integrated LED lighting and turn signals, and can reach a top speed of 20 miles per hour. Additionally, the bike offers a unique biomotion design that illuminates the rider's legs while pedaling. Riders can also opt for all-terrain tires and a trail ride mode for enhanced control. The TM-B's removable battery supports USB-C fast charging at up to 240 watts, allowing users to power devices on the go. A sophisticated security system automatically locks the bike's battery, wheels, and frame when the rider walks away. Should the bike be tampered with, an alert is sent to the rider's phone, and the bike emits a loud sound to deter thieves. In extreme cases, the owner has the ability to remotely disable the bike. The bike's design incorporates a central touchscreen display for user interface, along with a modular top frame that can be swiftly adapted for various seating arrangements—solo, bench, or utility—without the need for tools. This versatility extends to the software, which adapts to the user's setup and integrates with navigational features to provide real-time updates on travel times and routes. Additionally, Also has developed an in-house helmet called the Alpha Wave Helmet, designed to enhance safety with improved impact protection. This helmet features integrated lights, an audio system with wind-shielded speakers, and noise-canceling microphones, allowing riders to enjoy music, take calls, and receive navigation instructions seamlessly while riding. With these groundbreaking products, Also is poised to make a significant impact in the micro-mobility sector, leveraging advanced technology and innovative design to enhance the riding experience.
