Airbnb shares rise on revenue beat, stronger-than-expected forecast

Airbnb's shares experienced a significant surge, climbing as much as 5% during after-hours trading on Thursday, following the company's announcement of its third-quarter financial results that exceeded analysts' expectations for revenue. The company reported a revenue increase of 10%, totaling $3.73 billion compared to the same period last year. Additionally, Airbnb's net income saw a slight rise to $1.374 billion, translating to $2.21 per share, up from $1.368 billion, or $2.13 per share, a year prior. Looking ahead, Airbnb provided a positive forecast for the fourth quarter, anticipating revenue between $2.66 billion and $2.72 billion, slightly above the $2.67 billion that analysts were predicting. In a letter to its shareholders, Airbnb characterized the quarter as "another strong quarter," highlighting the introduction of new features including enhanced maps, updated cancellation policies, and a 'reserve now, pay later' option. The company emphasized its commitment to growth, focusing on improving services, expanding its global reach, diversifying offerings, and integrating AI technology into its app. In terms of bookings, Airbnb reported 133.6 million nights and seats booked, which is a 9% increase year-over-year and exceeds the 131.75 million projected by StreetAccount. The gross booking value, an important metric that includes host earnings, service fees, cleaning fees, and taxes, reached $22.9 billion in the third quarter, marking a 14% year-over-year increase and surpassing the $21.9 billion expectations from analysts. Furthermore, Airbnb achieved an adjusted EBITDA of $2.1 billion, the highest recorded in any quarter to date, underscoring the company's robust performance during this period.
